Brown/Ricketts/Udick Grant

Twenty years ago, branch member Lydia Brown left a bequest of $7,000 to the branch to help “worthy graduate women at CU.” Since then, AAUW members Elizabeth Ricketts and Berny Udick have added gifts to the grant fund. Each year, the Boulder Branch provides several monetary awards from the interest from this endowment to University of Colorado graduate women.

Congratulations to our 2014-2015 Grant Recipients:

Christina Metcalf, Clinical Pyschology

Akasha Feist, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology

Adrianne Kroepsch, Environmental Studies

2014 Grant Application Letter

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Brown/Ricketts/Udick Grant. Please download the two-page application [below].

Please note that your application is limited to the two-page form and applications that exceed 2 pages will be disqualified. The application and copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts should be sent in a single PDF to aauwboulderbranch@gmail.com.  You must have been accepted in a graduate program, therefore the application must include you advisor’s signature.

The grant stipulates “a woman pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Colorado.” The $1000 awards will be presented in two payments in September 2014 and January 2015. Please do not apply if you plan to complete your graduate work prior to May 2015.

The deadline for responding is April 4, 2014. If you are one of the finalists, you will be called in early May for an interview with the committee. Results will be posted on the website after June 1, 2014.

We wish you success in graduate school. There are American Fellowships awarded by the American Association of University Women (www.aauw.org) at the national level. These are directed specifically toward women who have completed their course work for a doctorate and need financial help.

Sincerely,

Doris Hass, Chair

  1. I am a international student at cu. Can I apply this award?

    • Yes, if you meet the other qualifications listed on the Grant page.

  2. I am an international student who has been admitted by UC boulder, but I am still in China, How can I have the advisor’s signature?

    • Things that have worked for me in the past: filling the form out then faxing it to the person whose signature I need, they sign it, and then fax it back to me.
Or, filling it out, scanning it to make and electronic document, email that, they print it out, sign it, scan it, then send it back.

  3. Hi, I’m trying to find out when this year’s application deadline is. I have been checking back on the website, but haven’t seen any updates. Any information is greatly appreciated!

  4. Can the transcript be an unofficial copy?

    • Yes, we accept unofficial copies for the required transcripts.

  5. Hi, would I be considered if I am still taking my cousework? I should be done with coarswork in May of 2013. Thank You!

    • Recipients are required to still be taking coursework – if you will finish your coursework in May 2013 or after that, you are eligible.

  6. My advisor is on sabbatical. If I can’t reach someone else from my department in time, would it be acceptable for me to attach my acceptance letter?

    • never mind. I got it. :)

  7. When will you start accepting applications for 2012-2013?

    • Tentatively we’re planning on opening the 2012-2013 application process in the Spring of 2o13.

  8. I am wondering if this organization is offering this scholarship again for the 2013 term and if so where I might find the application. Thank you for your time.

    • Oh! Excuse me, I missed that someone had asked the same question before me. Thank you and I will check back again once the semester starts.

  9. Hello,
Do you know when the 2013 application will be available?
    Thank you!

  10. Hello, I am interested in applying for the grant for the 2012-2013 year, did I already miss the deadline? Thank you very much in advance.

  11. Thank you for the update!

  12. May I enter an email address instead of a physical address on the application?

    • I’m afraid not.

  13. Can I apply for this if I am planning to graduate May 2015?

  14. By September 2014 I will have finished my coursework but not yet taken my comprehensive exams or passed to candidacy. Am I still eligible? Also, does the review committee prefer to have 3 academic references, or a mix of academic and professional? Thank you!

  15. One more question: do you require official transcripts, or are photocopies and unofficial transcripts acceptable?

  16. For reference part, do “address” mean an email address or a physical address? If a physical address is required here, do I need to provide email addresses too? (I’m wondering the way by which reference letters will be submitted.)Thank you!

  17. Hi! I was wondering if the finalists were already notified for an interview this year? Thank you!

  18. In the information provided about this application above, it says that the 2014 award winners would be listed on the website after June 1st. Can you please provide the website information where this list of awardees can be found? I have not been able to locate that information on this site or any of the AAUW links provided.

    • Apologies for my delay, as a tardy webmistress. Award winners are now posted.
